History
The Outreach Center began with a vision to help the hurting and needy. Our hearts went out to the many elderly and handicapped
in our community who were struggling to meet their basic necessities. We had a desire to help by providing assistance with their
weekly groceries. In the early days, we were providing food to one or two families each month and quickly saw that the need was
much greater. Eventually, we started providing groceries each week. The first night, 129 families received assistance.
Now nearing our tenth year, we are providing groceries to between 800 and 1100 families every week. We also distribute food to over
60 other agencies, homeless shelters, and satellite locations locally and nationwide. Approximately 40,000 pounds of food
is given out each week to those less fortunate. We give freely to all those in need regardless of age, race, or ethnic
background. We also have over 800 volunteers, and approximately 130 of them work each week to make this distribution possible.
During the past several years, The Outreach Center has added other programs, including The Fresh Start Education Center and the Community Food Bank program. Our goal is to not only offer free sustenance but
to empower clients to rise above their circumstances and improve their way of life.
