Mrs. Michelle Fortune, Vice Chair

Mrs. Fortune is the CEO of Physician's Centre Hospital. She earned her degree from Gardner-Webb University and holds a national certification in ambulatory peri-anesthesia. Mrs. Fortune is a local recording artist. Her benefit concert brought increased community awareness of our hunger-relief program.

Mary is an adult-education instructor for Western Piedmont Community College. During her public school tenure she served as an elementary teacher, observer-evaluator for Burke County Public Schools, and Director of the Career Development Program. Mrs. Hewat is the Project Director for our Fresh Start adult education program.

Mrs. Rita Weatherford, Treasurer

Mrs. Weatherford is a Psychologist at Western Youth Institution in Morganton, North Carolina. She received her BA in Education from George Washington University in Washington, DC and also an MA in Clinical Psychology from UNC Greensboro.

Mr. Dan Dixon

Mr. Dixon is the retired Chief of Police of Fayetteville, North Carolina. He received his police science degree at Fayetteville State University and has over 3,000 hours of specialty training from Northwestern University, University of Georgia, United States Secret Service School, the FBI Academy, the Smith and Wesson Academy and other schools. Mr. Dixon has a heart for people at risk for hunger. He volunteers at The Outreach Center’s public food distribution.

Dr. Reynolds is a Doctor of Chiropractic medicine who received her education at Appalachian State University and Logan College of Chiropractic (cum laude). She is a member of the North Carolina Chiropractic Association. In addition to serving at The Outreach Center, Dr. Reynolds volunteers at the Good Samaritan Clinic and has actively participated in several food ministries.

Wayne Abele, Sr.

Wayne Abele is the owner of Abele's Restaurant in Morganton. He is a Burke County Commissioner. Wayne has been a small business owner for thirty-five years. He serves on 18 local boards, most of which focus on youth and families. He is also a member of the North Carolina State Board of Tourism and Travel.

Diann Thomas Tate

Diann served as the president of the local chapter of the N.A.A.C.P. for fourteen years. She holds a B.S. from Appalachian State University and worked in library science for thirty-one years. She has served on numerous boards in Morganton and Burke County.

Oscar Tate

Oscar is a member of Disabled American Veterans. Since being wounded in Vietnam, he has returned to Burke County where he is active in the Burke County Historical Society, prison ministry and Caring Hearts Mission Outreach.

Cecilia Surratt is retired from J. Iverson Riddle Developmental Institute. She has been in the ministry of evangelism for more than twelve years. The teaches women's groups and participates in nursing home ministries.
